In today’s art podcast we are talking about how to be a more confident artist. Is your lack of self-confidence holding you back?

I don’t think it matters how experienced we become as artists, we all have this feeling at some point. But it can become a real problem when artist self-doubt just doesn’t go away because if we don’t learn how to get past it, it can stunt our progression as artists.

And I do speak from experience because I used to be very unsure of my place in the art world, even as I did become more experienced, and it was only through forcing myself to be brave that I overcame that problem. But, we’ll talk more about that later!

Today, we are asking the question, should I loosen up my art style? It’s a subject that is close to Sandra’s heart because it was something she felt was almost forced on her when she started creating art. She ended up being sick of hearing the words ‘loosen up!’

Recently, we asked if there was anyone in particular that our listeners would like us to interview. One of the answers stood out to us. It was from a member of our Facebook group, Rick Fravor. Rick suggested that we interview an artist who is sight impaired, and that is not a subject we’ve touched on before, so of course we thought it was a great idea. But we decided, why not interview Rick himself… After all, he is artist and he is also sight impaired! Perhaps he will be the one to inspire other people who are physically disadvantaged in some way, to just have a go! Rick hasn’t let his sight impairment stop him from making art, and today he talks about how art has enriched his life.

If we look back to when we first started creating art, with the benefit of hindsight we might have done some things differently. Even now with more experience we still make a lot of mistakes eg. does anyone else not want to start a new sketchbook for fear of “ruining it”?
